I am a journalist. Actually, I am a former journalist. I need to get used to saying that. Because in two weeks I will join the millions of folks I formerly reported on.
I was given 60 days notice and I still haven't found a job. So I have succumbed to the harsh reality that I will be unemployed.
I am used to writing stories about other people. That's easy! But in this blog, I am going to document my new life of unemployment. I am going to report on myself. From the exciting adventures my newfound freedom will hopefully bring, to the days when my lack of money will likely force me into complete and utter boredom.
A story I did yesterday made me a little nervous. A 52 year old state worker, who made a salary similar to mine, was forced to file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy when the state issued a third furlough day. Cuts of $600 a month from his paycheck were too much for him.
I am going to lose $800 a month when I go on unemployment, and quite possibly my mind!
Maybe, hopefully, it will only be a short blog. But, if I somehow find myself on an unsuccessful quest for employment, at least I will have something to occupy my mind... and maybe some advice about how to keep my sanity?!

I look forward to your further adventures as a drain on society.
